Review the CIT Renewal Application

This certification represents a technician whose primary task is to perform basic infrastructure wiring for low-voltage technology systems in a residential or commercial setting.

Certified technicians are able to use proper tools and techniques, follow instructions per project documentation, and operate in a safe and professional manner on the jobsite. They understand the basic function of wiring and termination components being installed and are aware of common equipment and systems applications which they may assist with mounting and installing during later phases of a project.

While these individuals typically work under supervision, this certification indicates to employers that they are jobsite ready, can work billable hours performing cabling and installation support, and have foundational knowledge to support additional training on equipment and technology systems.

The CEDIA Certified Integrated System Technician (IST) is accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) as having met the international standard for personnel certification bodies defined by the ISO/IEC 17024 standard.

Who should become CIT Certified?

The CIT Certification is the ideal starting place for persons wanting to pursue a career in installing and integrating technology systems in various settings. This certification is also for professionals in a wide range of related building and construction trades seeking to expand their skillset into low-voltage cabling for and basic equipment installation.

The CIT Certification is also a prerequisite to the intermediate-level Integrated Systems Technician (IST) certification and may be a prerequisite for future advanced certifications. Experienced technicians seeking certification will take this exam first as it covers essential foundational material that technicians should possess, even as their skills and daily tasks expand to work more directly on installing and configuring equipment and technology systems.

Test

CEDIA exams are administered worldwide at Kryterion Global Testing Solutions test center locations and at select CEDIA events.

CIT is also currently available to be taken from your own computer via Kryterion’s Remote Online Proctoring service. After purchasing your exam, this option may be selected instead of a test center.

Email certification@cedia.org if you have any questions about remote proctored exams.

Maintain

The CIT certification is valid for 3 years and is renewed by completing the following:

  • Submit renewal application, $40 renewal fee, and code of conduct agreement.
  • Complete an approved 3-hour “CIT Technology & Standards” update course. The course includes an assessment at the end which candidates must pass with at least 80%. This course can be taken at any point during the third year of a certification period. CEDIA will be offering this course free of charge to CIT holders starting in January 2022.

Unlike the other certifications, the CIT does not accumulate 30 CEUs, as only the above-mentioned renewal course is needed. However, if a CIT holder also has other certifications, then they will need the 30 CEUs to renew those separately.
